Just learned of John's passing; it was a shock to me. Of the DeGarmo kids I knew, Barbara, Sharon, Skip, Ed; I somewhat knew your brother John. My condolences to you all on the loss of your brother.

John was one of those rare gifts that you only receive once in a lifetime. A rare book, a special poem or a new song you have never heard before. He would appear at times I was needing a helping hand with a project, some help with the yard or if I just needed someone to talk to. He was a great listener. Sometimes we would just sit without talking mostly on my back porch, sometimes on his front porch. I don’t know when it was that John started mowing my lawn for me. I know it happened several years before I retired because I would mow when I got home at the end of the week and he mowed at the beginning and the grass was never level between our houses. One mornings he waited for me and said hd had s proposal for me. He would mow my yard at the when he did his because he knew I didn’t have time when I got home from working away all week. Then one morning he stopped and said he would do the back yard too, and oh, well since he was going to do that he may as well take and bag my leaves too so he could put hem on his garden. I offered to pay him but he looked me square in the eyes and said No, that’s what neighbors are for. But, deep down I really knew he did it just to keep the grass even between the houses! Oh, John you will be missed so much. Forty three years you have blessed us with your goodness and your friendship and your love. I could probably write a book about those years but I won’t. Sue and I and Aimee and Alicia have been blessed with God’s gift of you and we love you and will miss you until we reunite on that Heavenly Shore. Thank you Jesus for loaning John to us here on Earth.

How do you say goodbye to someone who always listened to you. No matter if its rants and raves of just accomplishments. John was someone who listened. No matter that I lived across the country. So many laughs...so many memories . I will truly miss you brother. But I do know your in a wonderful place with our parents. GODSPEED!
