I only met Kyle twice. I'm glad I did. He was a very welcoming nice gentleman. He was my 2nd or 3rd cousin. My grandmother was Daisy Helmick Lane whom I never met. He was the Helmick family historian and he filled in a lot of Helmick missing links for myself and my sister Pat. Our mother was Beatrice Mae Lane the long missing relative that disappeared from Buckhannon in 1938 and remained a mystery until 1995. Pat & I loved meeting all of our long lost WV relatives. Words cannot express the loss our family is feeling at this time. Kyle had many titles. Loving husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, brother-in-law, friend, jokester and the list continues. The most important one for me is Uncle Spud. Some of my earliest memories is of him playing jokes on me. One of the most remembered is “Here it’s just trash throw it in fireplace.” Before they could say don’t, I did and it was firecrackers!!! Needless to say a big boom came from fireplace and soot was everywhere. Watching the Steelers play and playing pool in basement also come to mind. He kept us laughing until he was called home. Rest In Peace Uncle Spud, your nephew Doug

We are so sorry for your loss. Kyle was one of the ornriest fellows around. We will always cherish the wonderful times spent in Holly Grove. Some wonderful memories were made. Especially teaching Levi the monkey dance and how to play mumbly peg. Since I was just little it was hard to not think of Kyle as one of us kids and that never changed through the eyes of Levi. He will be missed terribly but thank goodness for the memories. Praying for peace and comfort for all.
