Dear family of Darius Craven, I was so saddened upon reading of Darius' passing. When I came to Upshur county in 1971 to teach and coach he befriended me and we had many meaningful conversations over the years until he retired. Darius certainly has a long and distinguished resume' of public service. As the poet has said "Service to others, what else is there?" I think that quote serves to characterize Darius. Sincere condolences to all & Godspeed. Jim Marsh

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at your time of loss. I knew Darius for over 60 years and found him to be a reliable, unique individual who was earnest and honest, firm but fair, opinionated and full of wit which he could and would show in various ways at any time.I had a lot of respect for him and will long remember him as an educator, politician and mentor to many.
Kind regards,
Larry McCartney

Linda, Diane and Barbara, may God bless you and your families with strength and comfort during this challenging time. As you know, your Dad was my principal and I was your teacher in third grade - all at Central Elementary School. He ran a 'tight ship' with respect, good manners and passsing grades at the top of his list, but also enjoyed teasing the kids and teachers, always with a twinkle in his eye. Memories galore! With love and prayers . . .

Mr craven was our principal at Tallmansville.. But I remember him more from our chats while he was walking on the railroad grade. I of course was driving but he was always willing to stop and chat.

Linda, Diane, and Barbara, and your family members, I offer my condolences on the death of your father; and my cousin. When I was a child, he was always nice to me, and really appreciated him driving me from my Grandmother Craven's house in Tennerton to the Academy Grade School before the school bus ran so I could make band practice.

I send greetings and sympathy to the family of Darius Carven, and want you to know that he is remembered fondly and with gratitude by this former student.
He was my teacher for two years at Truby Run Elementary School in Upshur County, and I remember him and his parents (Fern and Cecil) at the old store and gas station in the middle of Talmansville, and I did see him and Jean a few times over the years. I last spoke with him at Poling St Clair, when my dad (Henry Linger) passed away in 2006.
It was a joy to see Darius again – still so sharp and alert. Later, he kindly sent me some photos he had taken in the 1950s at our schoolhouse. I cherish them, and remain very grateful to him for sending them. I also thank him for drilling us in the multiplication tables – we learned them well.
