Larry, his brothers & sisters, & my sis & I (we're double-first cousins) spent our earliest years together at Bean's Mill -a magical time & place to us. With growing up, marrying, & moving around, seldom got to see much of each other during our early & middle adult years. On occasion, would make contact through our moms when home in WV, visiting. In later years, we got closer with Larry looking after & taking care of his mom; it had to be hard for him, but it endeared him to us even more as his mom was so precious to us. Through caring for her, losing his wife & sis, & developing the bad health that came to plague him, he seemed to always be the same -one of the kindest, gentlest, most soft-spoken souls there could ever be. He was always just simply himself -with just a tiny bit of rascal mixed in, but it was the best kind of rascal God ever created! There's a gospel song that tells of Heaven being "a land where crowns are given"; if that is true, am sure he earned a glorious one! The only thing is -with Larry being the way he is, they'll have quite a time trying to get him to wear it! Rest easy, Cous -God knows you earned it; see you in the by-and-by.

I remember Larry when I was just a kid. He stayed with my aunt and uncle. There was eight of us girls that lived on the farm. He helped us make candles out of crayons. He melted them in an old coffee can over a fire. He was super fun back then. All kids loved him. I’m so sorry for the family and friends losses. Love and prayers. Brenda Jones.

In our beginning there were the few of us kids with our parents in the river valley of Beans Mill which was a whistle stop on the B&O railroad when people did not yet know about the Blue Hole. We climbed Lookout Rock, swam at the Mill Dam, fished in the Turtle Hole, explored Panther Fork, etc. The outside environs were up the mountain to Cutright School or to the store and Post Office in Alton. We had great summer days in a Walton's lifestyle with grandparents in our old two story farmhouse with no electricity or indoor plumbing and winters sledding/sliding down the hill by Cutright School. We were each other's company, partners in crime, too young to know we didn't have much but happy to have what we did.
The usual life interventions of growing older meant town school then spreading our wings as adults with infrequent visits here and there with our families. The mid2000s we had responsibilities of family care and Larry would bring his mother to visit mine. He was always a patient soul, kind and considerate. He was helpful with my mother's death in 2013 when sorrowful events seemed to occur every two years with Larry placing his own mother in a nursing home around 2015. Marilyn's death in Nov 2017 with Leona's in 2019 was another blow. Larry himself was diagnosed with multiple myeloma around this time, a terrible debilitating disease. He still managed to visit the nursing home the best he could and keep us informed with pictures and calls His own health was fragile but he managed to make the last mile of his mother's earthly journey. Life must have been really hard at times but you had to admire his tenacity and grace, patience and humor. It made you want to be a better person to have respect and appreciation for his life. It is good to know that for all his quite shyness, many people held him in high regardI with affection. I hope he had many happy days chasing the country roads we all loved, visiting the haunts of our youth.
