I never met April in person I am sad to say, but we talked via the phone and email for several years. She was tireless in her pursuit right up to the end for better water quality for people everywhere, not just West Virginia residents. I can only hope that she was pleased with the info I provided and that somehow it assisted her in her goals to attain something better for all of us.She will be sadly missed but not forgotten. She has earned her rest. Now it is up to us to carry her torch
John Wells, 42 year veteran of the oil & gas industry, inspector, supervisor, pipeline specialist and welder {retired}.

My husband Ron and I extend our sympathies to April's family. Ron knew her from the college and I knew her as a neighbor and someone I enjoyed waving and speaking to as I would see her on our street. We were sorry to learn she was fighting cancer and are now very sorry to learn of her passing. Our thoughts are with all her family at this sad time. May God give you peace and comfort with beautiful memories to sustain you.

My heart goes out to April's family and her numerous friends. I hope April's family and so many more of us can find some comfort in knowing we grieve together, and feel her loss profoundly. So many here in West Virginia and beyond have been deeply inspired by April's tireless quest to defend the water, air, land, and the people they support. Even as the monster cancer came for April, she staved it off as long as anyone could and then some, for she radiated a positive, loving, youthful energy. This energy and love and light cannot be extinguished, for April has shared it with everyone who met her who shared determination to make our state better.

We will greatly miss April and her enthusiasm. As many of you know, April was passionate about the causes she believed in and was very active in support of them, right to the end. She had an indomitable spirit and set a high bar for action by us for causes in which one believes. She was especially passionate about the environment, water and air being the most prominent of her concerns.

I am so sorry to hear of April’s passing. During my time in college April was a tutor, a mentor but most of all my friend. She was someone who I could always count on. She was always just a phone call or a text away. She was truly an incredible person. My senior year when I first learned of April’s cancer, I remember being so scared and worried for her. She said to me in her office “Do not worry about me; worry about the environment because long after I’m gone and you’re gone our earth will still be alive.” She never made it about her. She did her work here on earth and never asked for anything in return. My heart is absolutely broken to know she is no longer with us. RIP April, thank you for showing up during times no one else did.

April was an inspiration to so many people, and I am one. Her vision of preserving the land, water and air in WV consumed a lot of her time and energy, but also seemed to give her energy. I'll never be able to live up to her example, but I will always keep her in mind as both a challenge and inspiration to strive for better things. Thanks to her family for sharing her with us!
