Obituary of Margaret Jane Smith

Margaret Jane Smith, age 71, of Buckhannon, WV, died Monday, July 2, 2018 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. She was born February 25, 1947 in Terra Alta, WV, a daughter of the late Edgar Dale and Betty Jane Kempher Sypolt. On June 5, 1965 she married Edwin Smith who survives. Also, surviving are one son, William Darrell Smith and wife Stephanie of Baltimore, MD; one daughter, Susan Irene Smith Barkley and husband Michael of Louisville, KY; four granddaughters, Hannah Willey of Buckhannon, WV, Susannah Willey of Beaver Creek, OH, Jillian Smith of Glassboro, NJ and Madeline Marks of Baltimore; five grandsons, Andrew Smith of Lexington, KY, Kevin Smith of Glassboro, Nicholas Marks of Baltimore, and Josh and Matthew Barkley both of Louisville; adopted granddaughters of Wesleyan; three brothers, Charles Sypolt and wife Linda of Albright, WV, Robert Sypolt of Terra Alta and David Sypolt and wife Lisa of Eglon, WV; three sisters, Helen Terry of Terra Alta, WV, Mary Ann Felton and husband Eddie of Lakeland, FL and Debra Gower and husband Ray of Terra Alta and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Michael Smith and a brother-in-law, Rudy Terry. Mrs. Smith was an LPN. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and a former EMT for the Upshur County EMS. She served on the WV Strawberry Festival Board. Mrs. Smith sang with the Buckhannon Choral Society and was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church Choir. She taught Sunday School for over 55 years and loved contributing to Chapel Hill’s Heifer project. Friends will be received Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10 AM Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Butcher and the Rev. Rodney Heckert officiating. Burial will follow in the Terra Alta Cemetery in Terra Alta, WV. Following the burial there will be a meal provided at the Corinth United Methodist Church in Corinth, WV. Online condolences may be made to the family at www. polingstclair.com.
