I'm so sad to learn of the passing of my dear friend Tom Keenan. I met him when we worked together on the Space Station program. He was so much fun to be around and to chat with, and he had the best laugh! Tom had a positive way of looking at life and always had that little twinkle in his eye. So sorry I'm just finding out that you've left us. Soar with the eagles dear friend.

Tom was a great friend for many years starting with the NASA Gemini Launch Preparation Group in 1964 at the McDonnald Aircraft Corp. in St. Louis, MIssouri testing Spacecraft 2, 3, and 4. Tom and I travleled to England, The Netherlands, Germany, and France for NASA on the Spacelab Program (He drove, I navigated badly). Lots of other great times with the NASA friends. The Eagle has landed.

I first met Tom when I arrived at KSC as a CO-OP student in the mid 60’s. Tom, being an older (probably about 35 at the time), senior engineer always looked out for us CO-OPs and “fresh out” engineers. We affectionately called him the Big Kahuna. Tom was a very special person – engineer, colleague, patriot and, especially, friend – and will be sorely missed. My condolences to the family and to Tom – God bless you and may you rest in peace.

Tom and I were paired together at KSC in 1968 to work the first manned Apollo spacecraft mission leading to the Moon Landing for the Guidance and Navigation System, he being the NASA Lead engineer and me the backup. Although Tom was only 11 years older than me I looked at him as a Father figure. His enthusiasm and knowledge of the spacecraft guidance system combined with his WV sense of humor and wittiness ( "It's a long road that doesn't have a turn in it") and calm demeanor during the historical birth of the US Space Age at a time when we had only dial telephones, primitive computers, and no internet made that the most exciting and challenging time in my life, and Tom was a huge part of it and a friend for life. Tom may the God of the Universe keep you as a True Shining Star.

Tom has been a true friend from the time I first met him in 1958 when we worked at AC Spark Plug on the Thor Missile Inertial guidance system. We worked together again at Kennedy Space Center, when we worked for NASA on the Space Program. Tom was a dedicated worker and his technical expertise was instrumental in the success of the Manned Space Program. In his retirement he always championed the right, and fought against what he saw as wrong.
Tom will be remembered as a true Patriot, and a great friend.

Tom was a sweet man. He was an avid supporter of the Robert C. Byrd High School Basketball Program. When the weather permitted Tom was at the games in Clarksburg. He enjoyed every minute of the games sitting with his cousin Joe Saas and the coach's wife Lisa Bennett. He will truly be missed. Rest in Peace Tom.
