I just want to thank Hazel for all the times she took care of me, and how good she was to me. In the early 40's while the war was going on, Mom and Dad (Leona and Alpha Koon) went to Baltimore. My brother (Gene) and I went to stay with Hazel. Of course we had to walk downhill about half a mile to the main road to catch the bus, and uphill on the way back, but we enjoyed it so much! One time I cut my left foot with the axe and she called a neighbor and they fixed it, and I have the most beautiful scar now! I remember how she loved her chickens, but when it was time for dinner she went out and grabbed one by the neck... and there was dinner! I still remember her laugh.
One time she gave me advice about a boy I was dating. She said "Whatever you do, don't!", and I knew exactly what she meant!
I remember her coming to Pittsburgh where we lived, and both Mona and Weldon got the sniffles. Mom was so concerned, but Hazel just said "Don't worry, when they go back and run barefoot in the snow they'll be fine!" And they were!
Carolyn, I'm so glad you worked so hard to make her last years good ones. She reached this age because of your love and dedication.
I always knew she loved me, and it changed my world.
