untitled2 Glenn Thomas "Tom' Dye Glenn Thomas "Tom" Dye, 79, died Friday, Dec. 17 at his home in Bushland, Texas. He had lived in Tallahassee, Fla. and in West Virginia for most of his life. Tom was born May 11, 1931 in Frenchton, W.Va. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1950, became a sergeant shortly afterward and continued his tour of duty until 1953. He fought in the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart after being critically wounded in battle. In 1957, he graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in economics from West Virginia Wesleyan College. He was a member of the Masons. During his career, Tom was an investigator with the U.S. Civil Service Commission (later renamed the Office of Personnel Management). He retired in 1986 after 30 years of service. Tom enjoyed RV travel/camping, reading, fishing, deer hunting and tinkering in his garage. He could make, build or repair almost anything. He loved his family, and he loved life. Preceding Tom in death were his first wife and the mother of his children, Betty Jean Ours Dye; his second wife, Betty Lee Hyre Dye; his parents, Fleda Watson Dye and James Glenn Dye; and his brother, John Durward Dye. Cherishing Tom's life and love are his daughter, Suellen Dye Wilkins and her husband, Randy; son, James Thomas Dye and his wife, Lisa; three grandchildren, Joshua Thomas Dye, Benjamin Hal Wilkins and Brooke Ellen Wilkins; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held 2 PM Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon, W.Va. Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion and DAV Chapters # 5 & # 36 will conduct Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project online at support.woundedwarriorproject.org. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
