CravenLaura Laura Jean Craven Laura Jean Craven, age 83, of Tallmansville, WV died Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon, WV. She was born August 17, 1931 in Tallmansville, a daughter of the late Richard B. and Stacy Simmons Thompson. On August 26, 1956 she married Darius Craven who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Linda Mathias and husband David of Elkins, WV, Diane Shipman and husband Don of Lorena, TX and Barbara Kerns and husband Carroll of Buckhannon; one grandson, Isaac Shipman of Lorena; two granddaughters, Amy Arthur of Morgantown, WV and Samantha Shipman of Lorena; one great-grandson, Ryan Arthur of Morgantown; one sister, Wanna Mae Beer of Philippi, WV and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one daughter, Melanie Craven; one sister, Madeline Marks and one brother, Guy Thompson. Mrs. Craven was a homemaker and a member of the Tallmansville Baptist Church. She was a 60 year member of Tallmansville CEOS, Associate member Upshur County Retired School Employees and a lifetime member of the Knights of Pythia’s Ladies Aux. She liked to travel, going to Alaska, Texas, North Carolina, TN and throughout WV. The family wishes to thank the staff at Serenity Care for the wonderful care they provided Jean. Friends will be received Tuesday, December 23, 2014 from 6-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tallmansville. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
