Mildred Ann Carpenter, age 73, of Buckhannon WV died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born November 19, 1940 in Buckhannon, the youngest daughter of the late Rhys Thomas and Elva May Sines Evans. On May 7, 1996 she married the Rev. Denley Carpenter who preceded her in death on June 9, 1998. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her first husband, Arkie Black; one brother, R.T. Evans, Jr. and three sisters, Gertrude Hardy, Sarah Campbell and Mabel Gillespie. She is survived by one son, Ronnie Black and wife Tammy of Monroe, NC; one grandson, Joey Black and wife Christine of Monroe; two granddaughters, Jessica Black of White Lake, NC and Amanda Stewart of Willmington, NC; three great grandsons, Canaan and Nolan Black both of Monroe and Grayson Black of White Lake; four nephews, Mike Gillespie and wife Pam, Gary W. Evans and wife Inis, and Phillip Campbell and wife Paula all of Buckhannon and Eddie Nixon and wife Joann of Canton, OH; two nieces, Patricia Gillespie Fletcher and husband Glenn Goodwin of Elkins, WV and Carol Campbell Dunn of Buckhannon, and several great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Carpenter was a homemaker and a lifelong member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Buckhannon. Her daily prayers always included requests for her family and friends. She bound her family together with a Christian love and communication that kept them close to God, to her and to each other though divided by many miles. Her loving voice and concern will be greatly missed and always remembered. Friends will be received Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Cutright officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon.
