Obituary of Emily Jane Shannon Phillips

untitled2 Emily Jane Shannon Phillips Emily Jane Shannon Phillips, age 89, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born May 7, 1921 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Arthur G. and Mayme Griffin Shannon. In 1944 she married Kenneth Orr Phillips who preceded her in death on June 20, 1969. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Shannon and Frances Hamner. She is survived by one son, James K. Phillips of Buckhannon; two daughters, Janet P. (Phillips) Chandler of Buckhannon and Marilyn (Phillips) Quick and husband Arden of Buckhannon; five grandsons, Eric Chandler and wife Ursula of Winchester, VA, Matt Lee and wife Brenda of Salisbury, NC, Greg Chandler of White Sulfur Springs, WV, Doug Lee of Springfield, MA and Justin Quick of Pittsburgh, PA; one granddaughter, Amy Sharpe and husband Patrick of Falling Waters, WV; great grandchildren, Jackson, Gus and Lucy Sharpe of Falling Water, Owen, Izak, Ayla and Alia Chandler of Winchester and Abby and Andrew Lee of Salisbury and a nephew, Allen Hamner and wife Pat of Buckhannon. Mrs. Phillips was Co-Owner of Shannon’s Hardware. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Buckhannon, the United Methodist Women, P.E.O. Sisterhood, and Buckhannon Woman’s Club, the College Club, WVWC Emeritus Club and a faithful supporter of WVWC. Friends will be received Sunday, April 17, 2011 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home of Buckhannon. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. M. Steven Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon.
