untitled3 Herschel Carpenter Herschel Carpenter age 93 of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, July 7, 2012 at the WV Veterans Nursing Facility in Clarksburg, WV. He was born September 21, 1918 in Sutton, WV a son of the late Jack and Letha Carpenter. He married Ellen Crites who preceded him in death in April 1973. He is survived by three sons, Lear Carpenter and wife Lisa of Washington, PA, Kelvin Carpenter and wife Brenda of Fairmont, WV and Randy Carpenter of Trinitad, CO; three daughters, Charlotte McCartney and husband Kermit, Wanetta Hardman and Janet Hall and husband Joe all of Buckhannon; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one daughter Judith Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a retired coal miner and a Christian by faith. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his honor to the WV Veteran Nursing Facility, Att: Business office- Resident Fund, One Freedoms Way, Clarksburg, WV 26301. A graveside service will be held 11 AM on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon with Pastor Michael Tallman officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery. VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Bartlette Post #7 American Legion and DAV Chapters #5 and #36 will conduct military honors at the graveside.
