After 98 years of a full and active life, Hazel Virginia Cockerill Beer of Huntington, WV, passed away on December 22, 2015, at her son’s home in Kennesaw, GA, surrounded by her family. Hazel was born in Buckhannon, WV on September 15, 1917, to George W. and Pearl Duke Cockerill. A 1936 graduate of BUHS, Hazel was married to Delbert W. “Red” Crutchfield from 1937 until his death. In 1948, she married Charles J. “Bud” Beer until his death in 1967. Hazel was a member of the Reger Chapel UMC, a former member of the Eastern Star, Upshur County 4-H Leaders Association and the Brushy Fork Women’s Club. She was an expert seamstress and a wonderful cook. Hazel retired from her work in the Bookstore at WVWC in 1982 when she moved to the Huntington area. She is survived by her three children, Sandra S. Crutchfield of Huntington, C. Jayne Whitlow of Vienna, WV and C. Thomas Beer and wife Linda of Kennesaw. Also surviving are her granddaughters, Amanda E. Whitlow of Parkersburg, WV, Kathryn M. Whitlow of Johnstown, OH and Maren E. Beer of Douglasville, GA; grandson, Christopher Beer of Kennesaw and great granddaughter, Lelah Beer. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by one brother, James Cockerill, and her son-in-law, Michael Whitlow. Friends will be received Monday, December 28, 2015 from 12 Noon to 2 PM the funeral hour at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home with the Rev. K Almond officiating. Burial will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park in Buckhannon. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
