James M. “Jim” Ward
James M. “Jim” Ward, age 85, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, April 29 2009 at Holbrook’s Nursing Home. He was born April 14, 1924 in Weston, WV, a son of the late Martin C. and Anna Peterson Ward. On June 9, 1950 he married Maxine “Pete” Brockleman who survives. Also, surviving are two sons, Mike Ward and wife Heather of Montclair, VA and Pat Ward of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Savannah Ward of Hollywood, CA and one grandson, Joseph Joshua Ward of Buckhannon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Fred and Bill Ward and two sisters, Imogene Hodges and Mary Wooddell. Mr. Ward was a meter reader for Columbia Gas Company for 31 years. He was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church of Buckhannon. He served in the US Navy during WW II, was Admiral Nimitz’s personal clerk, stationed at Pearl Harbor. A member of the Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Buckhannon Moose Lodge # 598, a 25 year member of Buckhannon Vol. Fire Dept. He was a member of the board of directors for Upshur County Society for Crippled Children and Adults. A member of the Upshur County Farm Bureau. Friends will be received Friday, May 1, 2009 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Stephen Engle officiating. Burial will follow in the Weston Masonic Cemetery in Weston. The family would like to thank the girls on the 4th wing at Holbrook’s Nursing Facility, for their care during Jim’s illness. Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion and DAV Chapters # 5 & 36 will conduct military honors at the gravesite.
