JULIA “JUDY” ELLEN BENDER
Julia Ellen Bender, age 85, of Buckhannon went to be with the Lord on September 17th, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was born November 29, 1927 in Braxton County, the daughter of the late Raymond and Bessie Ruth Skidmore Gillespie. She was preceeded in death on September 6, 2001 by her husband, John Gordon Bender, whom she married on July 9, 1946; brother Paul Gillespie and nephew Bradley White. Surviving are two daughters, Twila Edgell and husband Ray of Buckhannon and Brenda “Beni” Bender and companion Dave Curry of Buckhannon; sister, Thelma White and husband Curtis of Peeltree; brother, Larry Gillespie and wife Loretta of Buckhannon; also surviving are one granddaughter Bev Barnett and husband Josh of Buckhannon; two great-grandchildren Makena and Avery Barnett both of Buckhannon; also several nieces and nephews. Judy was a homemaker and previous owner alongside her husband John “Ben” of “Bender’s Sporting Goods” in Buckhannon. She was a 55 year C.E.O.S. member and attended the Tallmansville Baptist Church. Judy enjoyed crocheting, singing and playing guitar with “Sundown“, working puzzles, spending time with family and friends. Friends will be received from 12 Noon until 2 PM Thursday, September 19, 2013. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tim Lewis and the Rev. Frank Spears officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
