Claude C. Saunders, Jr., age 94, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Meadowview Manor Health Care in Bridgeport, WV. He was born June 23, 1920 in Oakland, WV, a son of the late Claude and Hattie F. Saunders. In addition to his father and mother he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Bennett Harvey on January 8, 2006 also one great-grandson, Daniel Elder; one brother, Darrel Saunders and four half-sisters. He is survived by two daughters, Virginia Smith and husband Johnny of Buckhannon and Joyce Elder and husband Jerry of Clarksburg, WV; four sons, Michael David Saunders and wife Susan of Goldvein, VA, Larry Harvey and wife Winnie, James Richard Harvey and wife Diane and Robert Harvey all of Buckhannon; four grandsons, Colin Saunders of Alexander,VA, James Lee Elder of Gainesville, VA, Jeffrey David Elder of Salem, WV and Billy Evans of Alexander, WV; four granddaughters, Alicia Bass of Pensacola, FL, Michele Sylvester of Norton, WV, Jody Lantz and Tia Dowell both of Buckhannon; ten great-grandchildren and one half brother, John Saunders of Clarksburg. Mr. Saunders was an auto mechanic and worked for Chenoweth Ford for 36 years. He was a member of the Sand Run Baptist Church. Mr. Saunders served in the US Navy during WWII. Friends will be received Saturday, April 18, 2015 from5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Sunday at the Sand Run Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Butcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Upshur County Honor Guard will provide Military Honors at the graveside.
