Pearl Mae Adkins Shingleton, age 88, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, December 11, 2014 at her home while under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice. She was born May 25, 1926 in Follansbee, WV, a daughter of the late Elmo Orie and Elsie Myrl Goodall Adkins. She married Clarence Robert Shingleton on November 25, 1944 and they just celebrated their 70th Anniversary. Also surviving are four daughters, Elaine Mravetz and husband Robert of Sharon Center, OH, Marlene Jackson and husband Sid of Bridgeport, WV, Denise Deegan and husband Joe of Charleston, WV and Megan Shingleton of Buckhannon; one son, Bruce Shingleton and wife Rebecca of York, PA and eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Elmo Adkins, Jr. Mrs. Shingleton was a homemaker and a member of the Way of Holiness Church. She was very devoted to her family. She was a member of the International Foreign Language Honorary while in college, the Bridgeport Women’s Club, Parent Teachers Assoc. and had volunteered extensively throughout each community in which she lived. She was a choir member at Bridgeport United Methodist Church, a Den Mother in Cub Scouts and Sunday School Teacher. She made birthday baskets for the residents in senior living facilities. She graduated Suma Cum Laude from WV State University in Psychology, she was active with Girl Scouts and church youth groups. She volunteered at BUHS, worked as a real estate agent and was a bookkeeper/secretary for several businesses. The family would like to send a special thanks to Stephanie Anderson and St. Joseph’s Hospice. Friends will be received Monday, December 15, 2014 from 12 Noon until 1 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 PM Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Murrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Quiet Dell, WV. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Cincinnati Burn Center. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
