Walter “W. L.” Strader
Walter “W. L.” Strader, age 87, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center in Elkins, WV. He was born September 21, 1927 in Upshur County, WV, a son of the late Houston Guy and Alta B. Lantz Strader. On February 5, 1952 he married Patricia F. Riggs of Buckhannon. Also surviving are two daughters, Catherine Poundstone and husband Charles of Hurricane, WV and Brieanne McKinniss and husband Justin of Delaware, OH; one son, Michael Strader and wife Lauren of Toccoa, GA; two granddaughters, Dayna Keevan and husband Ryan of Charlotte, NC and Sarah Strader of Norfolk, VA; two grandsons, Joshua Lang and fiancé Amy Nutt of Charlotte and C. J. Poundstone of Green River, WY; one great granddaughter, Hadley McKinniss of Delaware, OH; seven sisters, Jane Crawford, Judy Bryant, Dorothy Berry, Jean Zickefoose, Carolyn Watson, Vickie Poe and Kathleen Evans and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Eddie, William, Robert, Danial, Franklin and Thomas Strader and three sisters, Ester Southard, Alice Conners and Ruth Miles. Mr. Strader began a military career with three years in the U. S. Marine Corps followed by twenty-eight years in the U. S. Army. He retired from the Army in 1972. He then drove a school bus for the Upshur County Board of Education and was the owner/operator of W. L. Strader & Son Locksmith. He was a fifty year member of Lodge #58 AF&AM of Port Herron, MI, a member of the Aloha Shrine of Hawaii and a member of the Upshur County Shrine Club. He was also a Past Patron of Chapter # 18 OES of Buckhannon, a member of the National Camping Travelers, Inc. Chapter # 200 and a Kentucky Colonel of Louisville, KY. A celebration gathering will be held November 15, 2014 at 11 AM in the Mt. Lebanon Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
