Dorothy D. Short Dorothy Mae Dutton Short Dorothy Mae Dutton Short, age 86, passed away on August 13, 2014. Born February 27, 1928 in Fairmont WV, she was the daughter of the late Glenn Rollia Dutton and Pauline Pyle Dutton. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, William Rae Short, her son William Bradford Short and her sister Elizabeth Hornbeck Van Kirk. She is survived by son Bartley Dutton Short and his wife Sharon, granddaughter Carrie Short Wallace and her husband Craig Wallace, great granddaughter Ava Grace Wallace, a step grandson, David L. Linger and a step great grandson, Kody Linger, all of Buckhannon. Also surviving are two nephews, David D. Hornbeck and wife Judi of Stuart FL; William R. Hornbeck and wife Margaret of Leesburg VA; and one niece, Ann Hornbeck Taylor of Vacaville, CA. She is also survived by six great nieces and nephews and eleven great, great nieces and nephews. Two special treasures of Dorothy’s life, Rebekah Sharp and Pam Cook, were greatly loved. Dorothy moved to Buckhannon with her family in 1941 where she graduated from Buckhannon High School in 1945. Prior to graduation from high school, she was elected Governor of Rhododendron Girl’s state in 1944. Dorothy graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master’s Degree. After Dorothy’s marriage in 1949, she and husband Bill resided in Morgantown, where she taught Physical Education at West Virginia University. After returning to Buckhannon, she taught Physical Education for a brief period of time at West Virginia Wesleyan College. Her husband Bill owned and operated Short Cable and Supply Company. Dorothy was a member and past president of the Buckhannon Country Club, past president of the Junior Women’s Club, a lifetime member of St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, member of PEO Sisterhood, Order of Eastern Star, Red Hat Society, Circle of Friends Book Club, and the First United Methodist Church. Dorothy served on the Buckhannon City Council as well as the Planning Commission, the Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Water Board. She retired from Equitable Resources, Inc. in 1994. Dorothy enjoyed dancing, golfing, skiing, camping and spending time with her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The First United Methodist Church in Buckhannon WV or to PEO Scholarship Fund in care of Amy Williams, Larchmont Lane, Buckhannon, WV 26201. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 52 South Florida Street, Buckhannon WV on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11:00am.
