Ross E. Straight Ross E. Straight Ross E. Straight, died unexpectedly on August 13, 2014 at his home on 186 Same Ole Road in Buckhannon, WV. He was born in Buckhannon on October 26, 1951. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Molly Straight, son Hans, daughter-in-law Alex, and beloved grandson Ronan of Berea, WV; mother Leoma Straight, sister Lorna Straight, and sister-in-law Pam Straight, all of Chillicothe, OH; brother Stephen Straight and sister-in-law Denise Straight of Buckhannon; as well as numerous nephews and nieces, and a wide circle of friends and associates in WV and OH. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Robert Straight, brother David Straight, and son Shane Straight. Ross graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1969 and studied art at the University of Cincinnati and West Virginia Wesleyan College. After working as a commercial interior finish carpenter and then furniture maker, Ross began doing his art full-time in 1989. Over the years, he participated in many art shows, including one-man shows, and won numerous awards for his work. He was the designer and creator of the official seal of the City of Buckhannon as well as the Buckhongahelas bronze sculpture in Jawbone Park in Buckhannon. He was the designer and creator of both the bronze Philippi Sago Miners Memorial and the bronze Upper Big Branch Mine Disaster First Responders Memorial. Ross was passionate about music and gave notable performances in several BCT productions over the years. He was a loyal friend to many and a stranger to no one. He was a most enthusiastic individual, verbally engaging, and at the same time, a good listener. His character was larger than life but that was part of his charm. People will especially remember Ross for his great love of laughter, family, nature, animals, and learning and for his deep appreciation of life. Ross donated his body to the WVU Medical School. As per his request, there will be no viewing and no service. Condolences can be left on the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home website at www.polingstclair.com.
