Mary L. Simmons
Mary L. Simmons, age 83, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, June 22, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon with her family by her side. She was born January 11, 1931 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Horace Festus and Addie Belle Crites Phillips. On May 27, 1950 she married Wayne Jackson “Jack” Simmons, who preceded her in death on December 12, 1996. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Maley and Anne Gaudet and one brother, Horace Phillips, Jr. Surviving are two daughters, Jackie Fultz of Buckhannon and Deborah Richards and husband Michael of Parkersburg, WV; one son, Philip Simmons and wife Terry of Vandalia, WV; four granddaughters, Angelina Wellman and husband David, Kathryn “Nikki” Fultz and Talia Simmons all of Buckhannon and Gretchen Richards of Parkersburg; five grandsons, Philip Simmons, Jr. of Knoxville, TN, Aaron Richards of Parkersburg, Justin Simmons of Buckhannon, Joshua Simmons of Weston, WV and Khori Simmons of Century, WV; one great granddaughter, Delaney Wellman of Buckhannon; one great grandson, Zachary Wellman of Buckhannon; one sister-in-law, Theresa Phillips of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Casper. Mrs. Simmons was Quality Control at Moore Business Forms. Mary was a member of the Chapel Hill UMC, Moore’s Retirement Group and Good Sams Country Road Camping Club. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going down to the Senior Citizen’s Center, sewing and quilting. Friends will be received Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 5-8 PM at the Poling- St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10 AM Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Helen Oates and the Rev. Robert Cole officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. In lieu of flowers donations may be to the Upshur Co. Parrish House.
