Obituary of Thelma Summers

Thelma Summers Thelma R. Summers Thelma R. Summers, age 90, of Buckhannon, WV went home to the Lord Saturday, May 10, 2014 at her home in Buckhannon. She was born October 17, 1923 in Chelyan, WV, a daughter of the late Hughie D. and Callie Toothman Rippetoe. On August 1, 1942 she married Forrest Darrel “Pete” Summers who preceded her in death on November 27, 2005. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Helen Shelton and an infant sister, Bettie Jane Rippetoe. She is survived by three daughters, Drema Lanham and husband Robert P. of Pennsboro, WV, Joyce Heckert and husband Robert P. of Charleston, WV and Lois Yousefi and husband Abbas of Middletown, DE; one son, Darrel Summers and wife Wanda of Horner, WV; four granddaughters, Heather Rymer and husband Bill of Friendly, WV, Rebecca Heckert of Villa Rica, GA, Farishta Goodyear and husband Timothy of Bear, DE and Cristina Elliott and husband Paul of Harrisville, WV; four grandsons, Mark Izzo of Lexington, KY, Tony Izzo and wife Chasity of Maryville, TN, Steven Heckert and wife Maggie of Blount, WV and Scott Summers and wife Crystal of Cartersville, GA and 18 great grandchildren. Mrs. Summers was an avid homemaker, loved to cook and was a member of the Vandalia UMC. Family was the most important thing in Thelma’s life and she was the most loving mother and devoted wife a family could ask for. During WWII she worked in an artillery factory at the Ordinance Plant in South Charleston, WV. Thelma loved plants, flowers and craft making. She especially enjoyed working in the vegetable garden with her husband. Friends will be received Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from 5 to 8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 PM Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Dwayne Brown and Pastor Doug Smailes officiating. Burial will follow in the Summers Cemetery in Buckhannon.
