Obituary of Dorsey Junior Simmons

Dorsey Simmons Dorsey Junior Simmons Dorsey Junior Simmons, age 90, of French Creek, WV, died Thursday, April 17, 2014 at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV. He was born October 12, 1923 in Alton, WV, a son of the late Freeman Dorsey and Trecie Tenney Simmons. On December 13, 1947 he married Iris DeBarr who preceded him in death on April 6, 2007. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one brother, Adon Simmons and two sisters, Lavonne Breaud and Belvie Simmons. He is survived by one daughter, Terri Channell and husband Ron of Clarksburg, WV; two grandsons, Shawn Channell of Westminster, MA and Chris Channell of Morgantown, WV and three great grandsons, Andrew and Matthew Channell both of Westminster and Benjamin Channell of Morgantown. Mr. Simmons was a welder for PBI. He was a member of the Good Hope Tabernacle of Buckhannon and he received a Purple Heart while serving with the US Army during WW II. Friends will be received Monday, April 21, 2014 from 1-3 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home with funeral service beginning at 3 PM with Pastor Holly J. Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Camp Church Cemetery at French Creek. Upshur County Honor Guard will provide Military Honors at the graveside.
