Edward L. Oldaker
Edward L. Oldaker, age 94, a son of Rev. Lowery E. and Willie (Lawson) died April 29, 2011. He was born the 7th of September 1916 in Shinnston, Harrison County, WV. He graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1934 and was employed by the Western Union Telegraph Co. until he joined the Army in 1942. He was honorably discharged form the US Air Force in November 1945. He enrolled at West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1946 and received a B.A. degree in 1949. He also attended the University of Maryland at College Park, MD. He married Beatrice Marie Jones on July 9, 1948 in Spencer, Roane County, WV. They were married for 62 years. He taught school at Frederick High School in Frederick, MD from 1949-1953 and was employed by the Union Signal & Switch Division of Westinghouse Air Brake Co. in Swissvale, PA from 1954-1959. He accepted a position at Motorola Inc. in Scottsdale, AZ in 1959 and worked there until he retired in 1978 as a Program Manager, Logistics returning to Buckhannon, WV in February 2000. He was a Senior Member of the Society of Logistics Engineers during his working days. He had a great interest in genealogy and in 1985 published a book “The Oldacre/Oldaker Family” He has written several unpublished booklets of his own family and his grandfather Dr. Joseph Columbus Lawson’s family. He was a Charter Member of the Hacker’s Creek Pioneer Descendants and a member of the Upshur County Historical Society. He was also a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and WVWC Emeritus Club Class “49”. He is survived by his wife, Marie, a stepson, Richard R. Hawkins and wife Brenda of Mooresville, NC; four step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lois Oldaker of Buckhannon, six nephews and two nieces. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Mary Frances Beeson and her husband, Jewell, Geneva Taylor and husband Roy, three brothers, Joseph E. Oldaker, David L. Oldaker and wife Mona, William B. Oldaker and one nephew David L. Oldaker, Jr. In lieu of flowers, request donations be sent to the Salvation Army. No memorial service will be held.
