Obituary of Joan R. Tenney

Joan R. Tenney, age 88, of Buckhannon, WV, died Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born March 13, 1936, in Eden, WV, a daughter of the late Orville and Jessie Mae Haymond Rice. On February 14, 2007, she married Donald Tenney of Buckhannon who survives. Also surviving are, one daughter, Joanie Walton and husband Garry of Kanawha Head, WV; one step-son, Chris Tenney of Buckhannon; one step-daughter, Frani Cremer and husband Chris of Silverthorne, CO; one grandson, Garrett Walton and wife Stephanie of Kanawha Head; three step-grandsons, Nick Tenney and wife Ashley of Nutter Fort, WV, Cameron Tenney and wife Aylissa of Hurricane, WV, and Zac Cremer and wife Kara of Gunnison, CO; two step-granddaughters, Abby and Madison Cremer both of Bozeman, MT; one great-grandson, Raymond Walton of Kanawha Head; one great-granddaughter, Harley Walton of Kanawha Head; six step-great grandchildren, Carter & Athena Tenney of Nutter Fort, Meredith, Claire, and Addison Tenney of Hurricane and Ryder Cremer of Gunnison; one sister, Sylvia Spencer and husband Paul of Kanawha Head and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wade Summerfield; one sister, Beatrice Walton and two brothers, Oliver and William “Bill” Rice. Mrs. Tenney was a Methodist by faith and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Friends will be received Sunday, January 12, 2025 from 1PM to 2PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2PM with Rev. Michael W. Wamsley officiating. Burial will follow in the Haymond Cemetery in Kanawha Head.
