H. Ernest Neely

H. Ernest Neely, age 89, of Buckhannon, WV, died Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Holbrook Healthcare Center in Buckhannon. He was born December 10, 1934, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Hartsel and Ava Dean Neely. On May 29, 1954, he married Margaret L. Phillips, who survives. He is also survived by one son, Steven A. Neely and wife Cheryl of Buckhannon; two daughters, Vickie McDougal and husband Andy of Roseville, CA and Donna Harmon and husband David of Winter Springs, FL; five grandsons, Stephen McDougal of De Queen, AR, Jeff McDougal and companion Heather of Roseville, Adam Snellgrose and companion Lauren of Naples, FL, Stephen Wolfson of Myrtle Beach, SC and Chad Harmon and companion Courtney of Geneva, FL; three granddaughters, Jessica Wright of Clearwater, FL; Lenna Neely of Columbia, MO and Amanda Haines and husband Ted of Geneva; several great and great-great grandchildren and one sister, Katherine Brosky of Davis, CA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Ray Neely and one sister, Betty June Hinkle. Mr. Neely served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1957 and was aboard the USS Grand Canyon (AD-28) and USS Tidewater (AD-31). He was a member of and received his 50-year pin from UMWA and his 50-year pin for the Buckhannon Moose Lodge #598. Mr. Neely was a welder and retired from Upshur Coals. Friends will be received Friday, December 6, 2024, from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Holt Poling officiating. Burial will follow in Buckhannon Memorial Park.
