Obituary of Garfield A. Smith

untitled1 Garfield Allen “Tom” Smith Garfield Allen “Tom” Smith, age 63, of Buckhannon, WV Hodgesville community, died Monday, January 11, 2010 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. He was born August 17, 1946 in Upshur County, WV a son of the late Hoy Hershel and Madaline Virginia Shreve Smith. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by three daughters, Vicky Landers and twin daughters Jenny and Penny Smith; one grandson, Thomas Smith; one great grandson, Thomas Andrew Smith; one brother, Ernest Smith; and one sister, Frances Harris. On August 23, 1968 he married Helen Roby who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Ellen Tenney of Sand Run, WV and Madaline Bowman and husband Darren Bowman II of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Howard Joseph Landers II and Gilbert and Garrett Tenney all of Buckhannon; four granddaughters, Karen Smith, Joanna Nottingham and husband Jacob and, Elacia and Vicky Bowman all of Buckhannon; four brothers, Frank Smith of Buckhannon, Roger Smith of Roanoke, WV, Melvin and Gilbert Smith both of Buckhannon; five sisters, Judy Smith of Buckhannon, Christene Lipps of Buckhannon, Phyllis Owens of Portage, WI, Priscilla Heckler of Largo, FL and Alice Simpson of Weston, WV. Mr. Smith was a truck driver for GNC and was a Christian by faith. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home on Thursday, January 14, 2010 from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Simpson Cemetery in Roanoke, WV.
