Obituary of William "Bill" Wiles

William “Bill” Wiles, age 87, of Buckhannon, WV, died Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Fairmont Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Fairmont, WV. He was born September 4, 1936, in Parsons, WV, a son of the late William McKinley and Hazel James Wiles. On August 20, 1961, he married Mary Linda Baker Wiles who preceded him in death on September 1, 2021. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Allan and Elmo Wiles and three sisters, Joyce Ratliff, Carol Leudenburg and Doris Mascioli. He is survived by one son, Mike Wiles and wife Sharon of Caroll, OH; one daughter, Teresa Wiles of Buckhannon, WV; two grandsons, Tony and Derek Wiles; two granddaughters, Danielle Wiles and Tiffany Black and husband Justin; two sisters and one brother, Martha Rhafuse, Donovan Wiles and Edith Miller and five great grandchildren, Chloe, Kaylee, Justin, Karsyn and Jameson. Upon graduating from Parsons High School he served one term in the air force. He then was employed in plumbing and heating trade in Morgantown and Buckhannon. And then for Shannon's Hardware in Buckhannon for many years. After he retired from Shannon's, he was the electrical instructor at Eberle Technical Center for approximately 20 years. Bill and Mary had a small farm outside of Buckhannon where they both enjoyed country life and their favorite hobbies. Bill's hobbies was taking care of the farm and he was known for his gardening. his roadside vegetable stand during the summer was known around the area. And the produce did not last very long. Bill also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an artist at wood carving. Both he and his wife Mary enjoyed photography and day trips when they went out to explore the countryside. In 2009, Bill and Mary collaborated on a book about Bill growing up on a farm in Tucker County. The book was titled Up On Location. Bill loved meeting people and he never met a stranger. He will be missed by many. Friends will be received Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home with  Pastor Paul Rebelo officiating. Burial will follow in the Upper Fairview Cemetery in St. George, WV.
