Lenora Jane Shockey Thomason, one of Upshur County’s oldest citizens, said a peaceful goodbye at the age of 103 on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Serenity Assisted Living Home in Buckhannon, WV. She was born September 1, 1920, in Cassidy, WV, a daughter of the late Blaine L. and Lucy Currence Shockey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy W. Thomason; two sons, Roy Thomason, Jr. and Charles B. “Charlie” Thomason; son-in-law, Clyde Howes; one brother, Harold B. Shockey and one sister, Pauline Grayson. She is survived by her daughter, Katherine M. “Katie” Howes of Buckhannon; four grandchildren, Randy Howes and wife Deb and Edward Howes and wife Carol all of Buckhannon, Debbie Bonner and husband Donnie of Adrian, WV, and Marty Thomason and wife Karen of Clarksburg, WV; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two daughters-in-law, Betty Thomason of Clarksburg and Shelia E. Thomason of Buckhannon. Lenora was a homemaker and the wife of a coal miner and farmer. She loved working on word searches and plastic crafts. Friends will be received Saturday, March 30, 2023, from 12 PM (noon) to 2 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM with Pastor Ed Lowther and Rev. Ralph Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lenora’s memory to the charity of your choice.
