In lamentation of the passing of our beloved friend Mrs. Ellen, we recollect her spirited nature and cherish fond memories forged in FUMC church. Her enduring kindness was a beacon to all, especially equally cherished Nora Rae who lovingly dubbed her 'Grandma Ellen'. Her absence leaves a void - she will be significantly missed by us, The Huffman’s. We pray for serenity and strength in this time of grief.

Please know how sad I was to see your dear mother had passed and now is with your father in heaven. I always enjoyed seeing both of them as I grew up in Buckhannon and then in later life. And Jane you were always my favorite young person and know how good the 3 of you were to your parents. There is a time to live and a time to die and your parents lived to the fullest. May they rest in peace knowing they did wonderful things to help us all.
Love, Katy O’Brien Greenhill

Miss Ellen was one of the first alumna to welcome me when I began working at WVWC. She and Jane Ellen hosted me for a beautiful afternoon lunch at her home where she served a lovely cheese souffle that I have made several times since. I loved listening to her as she shared her stories and memories from her alma mater, proudly showed her home, and talked about she and Pat raising their sweet family. She was such a bright light and I will cherish those few precious times that I was fortunate enough to be in her company. I will miss her dearly. May her memory bring a smile and warmth to all who miss her. Miss Ellen, you were bigger than the whole sky...rest in peace.

Van, Jane Ellen, and Wesley,
Please accept my deepest sympathy in the passing of your mother. I always admired her as a wonderful Christian Lady and an individual born to be a teacher, both in the classroom and outside the classroom door. Ellen led by example in her dedication of service and love for her church, her community, her students and her friends.
As her colleague in education, I saw the special compassion and individual attention Ellen gave to her students. It was always her desire to make a difference in the lives of children. . .And She Did.... Your mother had a special way of helping her students gain self-confidence and to believe in themselves. She held their attention and she was loved and respected.
Ellen was so very proud of each of you and I know that you stand on the shoulders of two wonderful parents.
May God Bless, Hold You Close, and Give You Strength During these Difficult Days. Each of you and your families are in my Prayers.

Van, Jane, Wes and families,
I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. Mrs. Nickell was so kind and friendly, always striking up a conversation whenever I would see her. I remember being at a camp one summer in my late teens where we were both counselors—I thought it was cool and fun that she was there. She was amazing, and an inspiration in her later years, remaining so active and independent—and still just as friendly and kind as always. Praying God’s comfort, peace, and strength for you all during this difficult time.

When Ian & I moved to Buckhannon, Pat & Ellen were two of the first people we met. They were a delightful couple who were so kind in making us feel welcome to a town in which we knew no one. I fondly recall a luncheon at their home to which Ellen was gracious enough to invite me to help me get to know more folks in our chosen "hometown."
Ellen was witty. She was sincere, thoughtful and ever so kind ... and she loved her church so very much. Heaven's gain is our loss ... we will miss Ellen.

I first met Mrs. Nickell when I was a student at Daysville Elementary School in the 1960's. I can still hear her saying, "I don't profess to be an expert on ..." and she would insert a particular subject. However, she was a great substitute teacher and, as her obituary stated, she DID teach. Though I didn't really know her well, we would speak when we saw each other out. She was a genuine, classy lady. To the family, I wish you much peace of mind. May her soul rest in peace.
