Obituary of Joyce Lea Rohr

Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joyce Lea Rohr, age 76, of Buckhannon, WV, died Friday, February 3, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born May 15, 1946, in Emma, IL, daughter of the late Estell and Frances Rodgers Stewart. Then one day she met Norman Rohr at the Stardust and the rest is history. On October 19, 1968, she married the love of her life, Norman Rohr who survives of Buckhannon. Also, surviving are two daughters, Amy Queen and husband Michael and Cary Smith and fiancé Joe Beckner all of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Maggie and Grace Queen; two grandsons, Colton and Coby Smith, also all of Buckhannon; one sister, Marcia Stewart-Kizer and husband Richard of Springboro, Ohio; one brother, Marvin Stewart and wife Judy of Weston, WV; one half-sister, Jan Craig and husband Butch of Buckhannon and two nieces, Rebecca Donaldson and husband Wesley and Emmalee Kemper and husband Nate all of Weston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Wayne Stewart.  Her youth was spent growing up in Carmi, IL where she was very close to her Uncle Gene and Aunt Judy, her father’s youngest brother and his wife. Her Uncle Norwood and Aunt Pat’s house was like a second home,  she truly cherished her time spent with them and had so many wonderful memories of those days. She was a beautician in Weston working at Rose’s Beauty Salon for several years. When she was pregnant with her first child, she was blessed to  become a stay-at-home mom and homemaker.  Joyce was a member of the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church of Buckhannon, the Valley View Extension Homemakers, United Methodist Women and the Secretary/Treasurer for the Warren District Community Center. She volunteered for the American Red Cross. Her sharp memory and keen organization skills were invaluable working  during the 1985 flood. It often also meant she was the go-to-person who knew where everything was at the church and community center. Even two years after her health began to fail and she was not able to attend church or events at the community center, she would get calls to help them find things, she always knew exactly where it was and could describe the exact location. Joyce was a project leader with the Pringle Tree 4-H Club. She took pride in helping all organizations she was affiliated with. For several summers, Joyce and Norman hosted students from Japan, Australia, and Finland through the Hodgesville Lion’s Club International Student Exchange  Program. Joyce was also very creative and in her spare time she enjoyed making beautiful crafts. Many of our most cherished Christmas decorations were made by Joyce and are prized possessions. Friends will be received Sunday, February 5, 2023 from 4PM to 7PM at the Poling-St.Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Monday, February 6, 2023, 11AM at the funeral home with Lay Minister Jim Minutelli officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Lebanon UM Church Cemetery in Buckhannon. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
