Obituary of Margel W. Zickefoose

Margel ‘Zick’ Zickefoose age 98, of Waynesville OH passed away peacefully in his sleep, at his home on Tuesday, December 28, 2021.  He was born on May 29, 1923 in Hemlock, WV; a son of Orva and Eunice Zickefoose. He was married to Gleneva (Tomi) Chewning on August 27, 1949. He is survived by: Daughter Linda Shepard (Dean); Daughter Nancy Buckingham; Son Dennis Zickefoose (Terry). Grandchildren: Rodney Shepard, Kevin Shepard, Nicki Dravenstott (Wally), Michele Woodley (Dani), Jon Zickefoose and Shelia, Chris Zickefoose (Mandi). Great-Grandchldren: Eric Shepard (Abigail); Sydney, Logan and Summer Dravenstott; Nate Frank; Cash Zickefoose; Harlyn Zickefoose. Great-Great-Grandchildren: Eli, Adam, Maci, Ezra and Liam Shepard. Zick is also survived by: his sister Janet Elson, brother-in-law James Chewning (Olive), sister-in-laws Shelia Hodges and Regina Chewning; and several nieces and nephews.

Zick was a loving and devoted husband to Tomi for almost 70 years. He was a caring and loving Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Great-Great Grandfather, who was deeply loved and will be missed by all. Zick was a WW II veteran who proudly served his country including in the Battle of the Bulge. He enjoyed spending time with his family and found great pleasure in gardening, hunting, hiking, reading, and maintaining his lawn. Friends will be received Tuesday, January 4, 2022, from 11 AM until 1 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Holly J. Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Church Cemetery in Hemlock, WV. The Upshur County Honor Guard will perform Military Honors at the gravesite.
