Leila Joy Ours
Leila Joy Ours, age 98, of Buckhannon, WV, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Victoria Manor of Buckhannon. She was born on June 3, 1909 at Tallmansville, WV a daughter of the late Samuel B and Nora (Butcher) Tenney. In 1930 she married Mayford Thaddeus Ours who preceded her in death October 1, 1989. Mrs. Ours is survived by one son, Bruce Our and wife Tina of Seabrook, MD; one foster son, Edward Martin and wife Kathy of OH; four daughters, Marette Sue Martin of Redding, CA, Marian L. Ours of Vacaville, CA, Shelia Markins of Huntington, WV, and Pricilla Clark and husband Quincy of Charlotte, NC, 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great- grandchildren, one sister Hilton (Tenney) Mason of Buckhannon; and caregivers, Donna and Della Hoover and families. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Samuel W. Ours; three sisters, Flora Riggs, Lula Reed and Zona Carter; and one brother, Lloyd Tenney. Leila was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. She was an elementary school teacher and principal in Braxton, Upshur, Webster, and Kanawha Counties. She attended Glenville State College and received a bachelor’s Degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a Master’s Degree from West Virginia University. She belonged to the American Assoc. of University Women, WSCS, Homemakers’ Club of Tallmansville, 4-H Leader and Pioneer, WVEA, NEA, Retired Teachers Assoc of Kanawha and Upshur Counties. Friends will be received from 4-9 PM, Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Poling-St Clair Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM, Sunday at the funeral home with the Reverends Billee Scott Mick and John Allan Mason. Burial will follow at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery at Tallmansville. Flowers are appreciated, however in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made to the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, c/o Patty Strader, 44 College Ave., Buckhannon, WV 26201.
