Obituary of Tex Edward Walton

Tex Edward Walton, age 77, of Buckhannon, WV, went to Heaven on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 after a valiant battle with COVID-19.  His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Tex worked at National Auto in Buckhannon, WV and later at West Virginia Glass in Weston, WV.  Most of his employment was with Moore Business Forms in Buckhannon, WV and he later developed his hobby into a business under the name of T.W. Bow Shop.  Due to health conditions, he closed that business but later reopened under Tex’s Gun and Pawn Shop, both in Buckhannon, WV.  These businesses did not only provide income but created many friendships and acquaintances.  He was a devoted husband, father and an avid hunter.  Tex was a legend in Buckhannon and in the State of West Virginia when it came to hunting and hunting supplies.  He was always encouraging young hunters including his children and grandchildren by educating them to hunt and to respect the hunting equipment.  He loved gardening and being outside.  Tex was a Christian by faith and lived his life for God.  He enjoyed reading his Bible and studying the Word of God.  He loved singing and playing his guitar.  Tex was an active member of the Independent Word of Life Church of Buckhannon, WV.  He was committed to his family and was always willing to help others anyway possible. Tex was born on May 12, 1943, in Buckhannon, WV, to the late Justice Walton and Mary Tenney Cassort.  He was blessed with a large and loving extended family.  He married Hazel Marie Walton on January 31, 1998 in Weston, WV.  Tex is survived by two daughters, Pamela (and Greg) Johnston, and Sheila (and Roger) Perry, both of Buckhannon, WV along with their mother, Mary Marks and two grandchildren, Brandon Johnston (and fiancé Jenny Primmer and daughter Ava) of Mims, FL and NinaMae Coberly of Buckhannon, WV.  Tex is also survived by three step-children, Dorinda Hall of French Creek, WV, Terry (and Greg) Shingleton of Helvetia, WV, and Tim Ratliff, of Buckhannon, WV.  He was blessed with seven step grandchildren, Brandi and (Brian) Stevens of Morgantown, WV, Anastasia (and Ed) Mackey, of Buckhannon, WV, Misty (and Johnny) Demidovich of Morgantown, WV, April Hall of French Creek, WV, Tori Forbes, of Cookeville, TN, Hillary (and Josh) Lewellen, of Mount Morris, PA, Amber Ratliff of Buckhannon, WV and numerous step great grandchildren.  He is survived by one sister, Dolores Loudin of Buckhannon, WV, and three half-sisters, Kay (and Dale) Stone, of Poway, CA, Lynn (and Bill) Linger of Buckhannon, Sue (and Ron) Pugh, of Buckhannon, WV and half-brothers Jim (and Marilyn) Walton of Buckhannon, WV and Bob (and Linda) Walton of Marion, NC, along with his Uncle Buck Walton of Buckhannon, WV and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Tex is also survived by Brother-in-Law Fred (and Joanna) Cottrill, of Buckhannon, WV. A private graveside service will be held for family only on Friday, October 23, 2020. A public memorial service will be held at a later date. Flowers may be sent to Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home or to the family.
