Melvin Wayne Ringer, age 87, of Buckhannon, WV, passed from this life on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at Mansfield Place in Philippi, WV. He had been in declining health, but death was unexpected. He was born October 10, 1932, in Buckhannon, the son of the late Royden B. and Lelia Cutright Ringer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Trudy Hutton Ringer; one son, M. Wayne Ringer, II; one brother, Morris E. Ringer and one sister, Wanda Ringer Corbin Scheitlin. He is survived by his son, Michael B. and Cathy Ringer of Norton, WV; four grandchildren, Adam G. Ringer and Renee of Bethel Park, PA, Joshua G. Ringer and Nicole Shiflett of Elkins, WV, R. Benjamin Ringer of New York City, NY, and Morgan Sarah Ringer of Portsmouth, VA; two great-grandchildren, Daryn A. Ringer and Kelsi J. Ringer both of Bethel Park; one brother, Ronald Ringer and wife Sandra of Beaver, PA; a special friend, Jean Campbell of Philippi and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Ringer was raised in the town of Excelsior and attended the schools of Upshur County, graduating from Buckhannon-Upshur High School with the class of 1949. He served in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1957 – 1959. Mr. Ringer was a Baptist by faith and loved playing the game of Golf. He was a long-standing member of the Buckhannon Country Club. He also loved watching sports, such as baseball and football on TV and even attended several Major League Baseball games in his years. He was an NRA member and an avid hunter, when his health permitted it. Mr. Ringer was employed by the Kroger Company for many years, working in Gallipolis, OH, Elkins, WV and Buckhannon, WV. He retired in 2017 from the AF Wendling Company of Buckhannon after close to 40 years of service. In honoring Mr. Ringer’s wishes, he will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date and his ashes will be interred at the Old Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville, WV. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
