I remember Carmel from grade school and Lake Catholic High School as popular and likeable She was always considerate and had a lot of empathy for others, which seem to have been characteristics that flourished as she moved away from Mentor and began her own family. "And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make." My sincerest sympathy and very best wishes for her family.

To Steve, Brianna and Carmel’s family, my deepest sympathy for your loss of a such a loving and kind human being. I met Carmel 50 years ago in the 9th grade at Lake Catholic HS in Mentor, OH. I picked her up for school every day in Junior and Senior year during which time we became great friends. She and her parents and sister Donna welcomed me into their home and treated me like one of their own. I left the area in 1979 and would only see Carmel another 5-6 times over the next 40 years. But…Carmel was that friend that you hear about. Although conversations were not as frequent in those pre-historic times before cell phones, at a minimum we always spoke on our birthdays. When we would speak, it was as if time had stood still. We laughed like schoolgirls and vented to each other about our trials of the day. From the mid 2000’s, we talked and texted at least monthly. Carmel’s faith in God was so strong. She always prayed with me and for me and my family, and pointed me in a better direction than where I might have been heading. Our last visit together in 2015 was in her hometown of Buckhannon, WV. Not only was she proud of her little country town, but it was amazing to me that she took me from restaurant to grocery store to shoe store and more…and in every single place she knew someone and reached out to them with warmth and love. Carmel truly never met a stranger, and never ceased to tell anyone about Jesus. The last several months when she became too ill to communicate regularly, I began to feel a heartbreaking void.. the presence of Carmel’s absence. I am grateful that I was able to talk to her one last time on Christmas Eve and tell her how she lit up my life for all of these years… and we were able to exchange one last I Love You. Rest in heavenly peace my sweet friend until we meet again.

Steve and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Carmel's passing. She fought a good fight here on earth and now she is with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, no longer suffering the ills of cancer. I lift your whole family up in prayer asking that Our Father comfort you and give you strength to continue in this world until you can once again be reunited with your wife, mother, sister (in law) etc. I am imagining Carmel and Markita together in heaven enjoying their new bodies. I love you and your family just like you were my blood family. God bless you all.

Carmal was my dear friend, a confidante, a stellar member of the neighborhood and the community. She reflected the true light of Christ- and never hesitated to share that light. She was a magnificent mother that parented with every fiber of her being. Her love for Briana and for Steve was forever evident in her dedicated commitment to her family. She loved well, and she fought her fight with cancer well. The earth lost one of its angels, and I lost a precious friend. May the love of family and friends bring Briana and Steve comfort, and may the love of Christ bring you peace. I do not have the words to adequately grace her memory.
Sending our love and prayers of support from Alabama to you both ❤️ From Cindy and Doug and family

I am really sorry to hear this. Every time she saw me when we were both out and about, like at Wal Mart, she always had a big smile and made me feel like I was important and valued. I would always go away feeling better having run into her that day. Truly this can be said God received an angel.

I am so very sorry for your loss as I know it was a great one. Carmel was one of my ROCKS when I was very ill and we weren’t sure if I was going to live. She sent me page after page of healing scriptures, called daily to pray for me when I wasn’t too sick to talk and when I was I would lay and cry with hope as she prayed for me over the phone . There is no doubt where my friend is and I can only imagine her face as she saw her Savior. I’m sure she hasn’t quit hugging him yet! I could write a book of all that this precious lady did for me and I can guarantee you I will never forget it . I am selfish I miss her and want her back .I know we will see again . Prayers for comfort and love to the family.
