untitled3 Rigoberto Ruben Ramirez II Rigoberto Ruben Ramirez II, age 85, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, June 19, 2014 at his home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice. He was born January 5, 1929 in Los Mochis, State of Sinaloa, Mexico, a son of the late Dr. Rigoberto and Alta Gracia Torres Ramirez. On September 22, 1962 he married Anne Compton Davis who survives. Also surviving are two sons, John Fredrick Ramirez and wife Cheryl of Hemlock, WV and Rigoberto Ramirez III and wife Sherry of Buckhannon; one daughter Renee Shields and husband Kenny of Buckhannon; one grandson, Shane Ramirez and wife LaCrisha of Cedar Grove, WV; two granddaughters, Samantha and Jenna Ramirez of Buckhannon; three great grandchildren all of Cedar Grove; one sister, Emma Jofre of Mexico City, Mexico and several cousins and family in Mexico. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one half-brother in Mexico. Dr. Ramirez attended Med School in Mexico City. His internship at the Methodist Hospital in Madison, WI and Chief Surgical Resident at, what is now known as, CAMC in Charleston, WV. In 1965, he completed his studies of medicine and surgery and chose Buckhannon as his home for raising his family, practicing medicine and specializing in surgery. In 1970, he became a member of Offices of the Chapter of ACS in WV. In the 1980s, he was President of the Central WV Medical Society and other offices. Dr. Ramirez was a volunteer at heart, he was always giving. He was a Literacy Volunteer of Buckhannon and loved to volunteer for the Upshur County Parrish House. He was always helping with free clinics, family planning, breast cancer, blood banks and blood drives. As a member of the Rotary Club he took Mission Trips to Guatemala and helped establish a clinic in The Village of El Carmen and cooperating to establish the use of filters to improve their water supply from the river. Dr. Ramirez has chosen to be cremated and part of his ashes will remain in Buckhannon and part will be sent back to Mexico to rest beside his mother in Mexico City. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Literacy Volunteers of Buckhannon, the Upshur County Parrish House, St. Joseph’s Hospice or Fund at BUHS that was started by Dr. Reed.
