Robert Dewey Tenney, Sr., age 86, of French Creek, WV, died Friday, February 22, 2019 at his home. He was born September 12, 1932 in Hemlock, WV, a son of Floyd B. “Dave” Tenney, Sr. and Nora Mae Daniels Tenney. On October 5, 1953 he married Mamie Ellen Sponaugle Tenney who survives. Also, surviving are four sons, Robert Tenney, Jr. and wife Julia, Edd W. Tenney and wife Debra, Danny A. Tenney and Matthew L. Tenney and wife Angela all of French Creek; three daughters, Connie E. Tenney and husband Ted of Ellamore, WV, Mamie Virginia “Ginger” Tenney and Nettie Mae Allen and husband James all of French Creek; thirty-two grandchildren, forty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Conard Tenney, Sr. and wife Celia of French Creek, Doyle Tenney and wife Beulah of Frenchton, WV and David Tenney and wife Cindy of Hemlock; three sisters, Emma Lou Whitacre and husband Roy of Winchester, VA, Roselea Jeffers of Warren, OH and Helen Graham of Hemlock and two ex-sons-in-law, Brian Lee of Tallmansville, WV and Roger Tiffner, Sr of Rock Cave, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, James Dewey Tenney; five Tiffner Babies; one great-granddaughter, Brooke Anne Tiffner; one great-grandson, Alfie Tenney; two sons-in-law, Dennis Cogar and Johnny Perrine; one daughter-in-law, Mary Sue Tenney; two brothers, Denver Tenney and Arnold Tenney, Sr. and four sisters, Verla Pritt, Zelma Tenney, Letha Bacorn and Lora Bernice Lightner. Mr. Tenney was a faithful Jehovah’s Witness and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He served in the U. S. Army as a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne Division, North Fort Campbell, KY. Mr. Tenney was a jack of all trades and worked as a logger, coal miner for Beth Energy #108, steel mill worker and a farmer. He was a member of  the UMWA and the NRA. He was an avid deer hunter, a Cowboy’s fan, enjoyed singing and above all he was passionate about and loved his family. Friends will be received Monday, February 25, 2019 from 4 to 8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 PM at the funeral home with Ron Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow at the Family Farm at Grand Camp.
