My deepest heartfelt sympathy to all of her family for this tragic loss. Tappy's kind spirit and highly evolved principles stood out to me each time I saw her after high school, even if only meeting with her for a few minutes. Such a great loss for so many people, those who knew her intimately and those who never got that opportunity. I will continue to pray for the entire family, and again, I am so very, very sorry. Deepest condolences to all. Tappan was an amazing mother, teacher and individual. Max and I referred to her as BU’s Social Director during big events. She always knew what was going to happen and she managed to keep the kids “in line” during these activities. Rarely did you see anything but her amazing smile freely sharing her warm spirits with all.
We were all very lucky to have been a small part of her world! She will be deeply missed by so many.

Dear Duwane and your daughter and sons, and Danny and Dianne, and Tappy's other brothers and families--
I was so so sorry to hear of Tappy's death via our BUHS class of 76 facebook page. I always loved her so dearly from the time we were five years old in kindergarten together with Mrs. Reger! I have really good memories of playing in the rhythm band in Academy grade school with her, and in band all the way from elementary school through the junior high years with Mr. Lawson through the high school years with Mr. Rossano...and of course through choir with Mr. Knorr and our trip to Europe with the West Virginia Youth Chorale. I remember her dog Zephyr so well too, and Tappy's voice as she used to call Zephyr: "Zephyrrrrrrrrr!" I remember birthday parties with Tappy and colorful cream cheese sandwiches that her mom used to make for these fun events. Most of all, I remember how loving she was to me when my mother died days before BUHS graduation--she was one of the first people to come to my house to hug me and say how sorry she was, while I cried. Unforgettable too was her infectious laugh and sense of humor and just how much she loved life and everyone in her midst. I remember talking to her at our 30th class reunion, but unfortunately I couldn't make it for our 40th. I remember her cheering from grade school through high school, and she would always smile at me as I walked by with the band...and just how much fun I always had with her. She also sent me a wedding present (a wooden picture of the Wesleyan Chapel & spire, which I have in my piano teaching studio at the Diamond Head branch of the University of Hawaii--and I sadly fear that I forgot to send her a thank-you note:(
Danny and Dianne, please email me your phone numbers, because I would really like to call you both, since I regret that I cannot come to her funeral. I am so so sorry for your loss--she will be missed so much by all of us who loved her.
With much sympathy and love,
Anne Craig Lum

I was shocked and very sorry to hear of Tappan's passing. I have know "Tappy" for a long time through summer swim and had contact with her more recently through high school swim as our son's are close in age. I remember she was a couple of years older than me and I always worried when I aged up to 15-18 age group that I would have to swim against the "master". I survived and we laughed about it alot. She truly was a very special, caring person who I will always remember fondly! I will miss our conversations at regionals this year for high school swim and trying to keep people from "saving seats".
I will keep your whole family in my thoughts and prayers. We lost a good one when we lost her and heaven gained a very special angel. She will never be forgotten.
My heart goes out to all of you.

Katie, Will, Tim, and Sam:
Words are inadequate during times of great sorrow but may you find comfort in knowing that you and your family are in our thoughts. There’s a special place in all of our hearts for our mothers, just like there’s a special place in every mother’s heart for her children. Continue to carry her memory in that special place in your heart and she will never truly be gone. From what I heard, she was a great woman and deeply admired for all her accomplishments and her caring nature. I’ll be thinking about you in the coming days and saying a prayer for you now and then. I am sincerely sorry for the loss of your mother.

When I think of Tappan, all I can think of is SUPER MOM. I spent a lot of time with Katie growing up, which meant I got to witness how amazing Tappan was as a mother. My sweet “growing up pal” Tappy died yesterday. (On top) So many memories of neighborhood ball games, rainy day Monopoly marathons, long hikes and trees climbed, Barbie dolls in the hidden closet, swim team, sleep overs, watermelon parties with all the siblings and adults.... Victoria Hill, Buckhannon, WV, was a wonderful and amazing place to experience childhood. The photo, taken at our cabin in Hemlock, shows our joy! Tappy, Amy, Dinah, me, and Kit. Kit, too, has crossed “the veil.” My heart aches for Tappan’s family and friends and students - there’s a whole lot of hurting going on back home in Upshur County.
