Obituary of Donald Gay Wamsley
Donald G. Wamsley, age 77, of Buckhannon, WV, went to meet his heavenly Father Saturday, December 22, 2018 at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV. He was surrounded by his wife and loving family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vernia Wamsley; brother, Junior Wamsley and sister, Helen Raney. He leaves behind his loving wife and compassionate caregiver, Alpha Hope Zickefoose Wamsley who he married after two weeks of courtship, on May 15, 1987. Also surviving are five sons, Mike Wamsley and wife Nancy of Buckhannon, Donald Wamsley II of Buckhannon, Brad Strother and wife Netonnis of Buckhannon, Andrew Strother and wife Hesper of NC and Tim Strother of Buckhannon; three daughters, Cindy Roby and husband Bill and Cheryl Riffle and husband Eric all of Buckhannon and Christy Aylestock and husband Sam of Woodbridge, VA; six grandsons, Austin Wamsley, Cody Sparks and wife Autumn, and Shawn Lynch all of Buckhannon, Brandon Aylestock and wife Hannah of VA and Bradley and Chad Strother both of Buckhannon; nine granddaughters, Kailyn Roby and Jeremy Johnston of Rock Cave, WV, Courtney Roby and fiancé Joey Jenkins of Buckhannon, Kirston Lavis and husband George of French Creek, Kendra Manning and husband Mark, Ali Sparks and Madison Wamsley all of Buckhannon, Megan Aylestock and fiancé Austin Ramsey of VA, Cheyenne Strother of Buckhannon and Clara Strother of Clarksburg, WV; five great-grandchildren, Kallie Rae, Mason, Audrey, Nathaniel, Brenley, Ethan and Blaine; two sisters, Shirley Warner and Kay Brown both of Buckhannon; two brothers-in-law, Paul Zickefoose and wife Brenda of Philippi, WV and Don Raney of Martinsburg, WV; four sisters-in-law, Lora Currence and husband Gene of Buckhannon, Paulette Malcolm and husband Jim of OH and Judy Stackpole and husband Ronnie and Celesta Stump and husband Mike all of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Wamsley was a supervisor at Nickel’s Bakery and a member of the South Buckhannon Mission Church. He was a passionate NASCAR fan and his favorite driver was #3, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He enjoyed Sunday drives and traveling to visit different states; but, above all he loved spending time with his family and his cat Festus. Friends will be received Wednesday, December 26, 2018, from 6 PM to 9 PM at the South Buckhannon Mission Church. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Thursday at the church with Pastor Ed Lowther and Rev. Junior Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Cutright Chapel Cemetery in Queens, WV.
