Delma Gainer Iden

Delma Gainer Iden, age 93, of Buckhannon, WV, died Monday, September 10, 2018, at her home. She was born March 5, 1925, in Nestorville, WV, a daughter of the late Chlorus Darl and Delta Holyfield Gainer. On August 1, 1952, she married Marvin Nelson “Jake” Iden who preceded her in death on October 20, 2002. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Denzel Gainer. She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Todd and husband Clarence “Sonny” of Morgantown, WV, and Cathy Becker and husband Kip of Sarasota, FL; and one grandson, Hugh Caperton and wife Kathryn Marty of Morgantown. Mrs. Iden attended Belington High School, class of 1940, and graduated from Alderson Broaddus College in 1944. She taught school in Barbour and Cabell County, and retired from the Upshur County school system after 32 years of service. Mrs. Iden was a member of the West Virginia Education Association and the Upshur County Association of Retired School Educators. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Buckhannon; a member of the United Methodist Women and Circle; the Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as a Past Matron and received a 50-year membership pin; the Upshur County Historical Society; and the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary. Friends will be received Friday, September 14, 2018, from 5 to 8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Mrs. Iden will Lie-in-State Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Buckhannon from 10 to 11 AM. The funeral will begin at 11 AM with the Rev. Steven Meadows and Jamie O’Brien officiating.
