Obituary of Michael Gene Currence

Michael Currence, age 55, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, August 11, 2018 on Hilton Head Island, SC. He was born October 1, 1962 in Buckhannon, a son of Gene Arvin and Lora Zickefoose Currence of Buckhannon. On September 3, 1983 he married Susan Weese, who survives in Buckhannon. Also surviving are two sons, Michael Ralph Currence and wife Brittany and Brooks Ashton Gene Currence and wife Ariel all of Buckhannon; three grandsons, William Arvin, Reagan Harper and Wade Ashton Currence all of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Antigone Gates Currence of Buckhannon; one brother, John Mitchell Currence and wife Tammy of Buckhannon; one sister, Laura Lynn Propst and husband Mike of Buckhannon; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one infant brother, Randall Gail Currence; maternal grandparents, Paul and Mavis Zickefoose; paternal grandparents, Elza and Freda (Mazie) Currence; father-in-law, Ralph Weese and mother-in-law, Laura Weese. Mike was known to many as “Mikey and Big Mike”. He loved his family, life and English Bulldogs. He brought joy to all those who knew him. Mike was an honest and truehearted man. The passion of love, hunting, NASCAR, and Fords he passed to his sons, grandchildren, nephews, and “yes” even his wife. Big Mike was loved and known by many, employed for many years by Louie Glass, Weston WV and Arch Coal Company, Grafton, WV. Singing was a great love and a talent he enjoyed sharing with others. As Big Mikey said, “It’s all about having fun and enjoying others.” Quote from his five-year old grandson William upon learning about his Pap Pap’s death, “He was the greatest Pap Pap that ever lived.” Friends will be received from 4 – 9 PM, Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, August 17, 2018 at the funeral home with the Rev. Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Church Cemetery at Hemlock, WV.
