Prof Phyllis Coston was a special person. Her passion and love was to learning disabled students. She helped many learning disabled as founder and director of the West Virginia Wesleyan College Learning Center. Learning disabled students were often given up by teachers as hopeless. Yet even if causes of one's learning disability cannot be medically cured, the fact is most times there are techniques to help this student excel. Mrs. Coston understood this fact long before it was widely recognized. Through her devotion to students and leadership she gave many disabled students tools to excel despite the handicap. Thanks to her, numerous learning disabled students excelled and became highly successful people.
I met Mrs. Coston as a student of West Virginia Wesleyan College and was in her Speed Reading class. From that first day I met her in the 1960's I was impressed by her devotion and love for her students. I also had her husband, Prof Herbert Coston, for class. He too was a devoted and compassionate person as well as educator. Both are true educational role models for West Virginia Wesleyan. She will be greatly missed by all. May her memory live forever in the hearts of all who knew her and never die. May we have another opportunity to meet her again someday with our Lord when we no longer need to face injury, disease and death ever.

Dear Herb,
So sorry for your loss. In my opinion Phyllis was the most caring and dedicated educator at Wesleyan. She helped so many of her students succeed in life. She gave full and unconditional support to all her students while they were at WVWC and following graduation. When The learning center had summer school for high school students who were potential candidates for the learning center at WVWC, I worked for Phyllis. I
enjoyed those summer terms immensely working hand to hand with Phyllis. Ruth and I will miss our conversations with Phyllis at 88. She was such a wonderful incredible person!!
Sincerely,
Rich and Ruth
