Obituary of John Junior Ramey

John Junior Ramey joined the Lord August 15, 2017 at his home in Clarksburg, WV. He was born in Pickens, WV on August 7, 1927 a son of John Junior and Elizabeth Glendine Heck Ramey. His beloved wife, Mable (Beavers) Ramey preceded him in death, after forty plus years of marriage. John was a community leader, ready and willing to help any person in need. He was the President of the Local Odd Fellows Lodge. He lived the majority of his life in the town of Pickens, WV in which he served the community of Pickens in many positions, among which was as Captain of the Volunteer Fire Department, for nine terms. John was a master mechanic. He serviced, maintained and repaired dozens of vehicles of all makes during his long life. He willingly gave his talents when need arose for him to repair vehicles of others in the Pickens community. It was not necessary that he know the operation of complex machines, for him to repair them. He once repaired a coal washing machine after other technicians failed. John served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army; he served fourteen months during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for bravery on Heartbreak Ridge. John worked as a truck driver, coal miner and mechanic for many coal companies throughout West Virginia, but mainly in Randolph County. His last employment was with Morrison Coal Company; however, he was unofficially “on call” to any company that needed assistance in repairing any type of equipment. John was survived by numerous cousins, among which are Tony Ramey and William (Billy) Randal Heck, who cared for him in the declining years of his life. A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 12 noon at the Pickens Cemetery with Howard Hudkins officiating. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct Military Honors.
