Obituary of Veva Smith

Veva Smith, age 93, of Buckhannon, WV, died Friday, February 2, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Nursing Care Facility in Buckhannon. She was born August 30, 1924 in Upshur County, WV, a daughter of the late Raymond and Clarcie Cutright Hyre. On November 18, 1945 she married Russell Wilson Smith who died on March 24, 2002. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step mothers, Stella Cutright Hyre and Lela Harmon Hyre and two sisters, Bertha Crites and Lorna Pringle. She is survived by one son, David Smith and wife Charlotte of Buckhannon; one daughter, Judy Patterson and husband Terry of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Jeffrey Patterson and wife Debbie of Buckhannon, Todd Smith and wife Susan of Bloomington, IN and Rodney Smith and wife Marketa of Fuquay Varina, NC; one granddaughter, Vikki Rovello and husband Rod of Buckhannon; six great-grandsons, Zachary Patterson and Josh Rovello both of Buckhannon, Keseling Smith of Fuquay Varina and Christian, Aidan and Evan Smith all of Bloomington; two great-granddaughters, Whitney Patterson and Ciara Rovello both of Buckhannon; one great-great-grandson, Bryer Dean of Buckhannon; one great-great-granddaughter, Bailee Dean of Buckhannon; two half- sisters, Gaylene Hildreth and husband Roy of Buckhannon and Rosella Ware and husband Melvin of Dickinson, TX; several nieces and nephews and several special friends. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She was a member of the Rocky Ford United Methodist Church and a Past Assistant Treasurer of the Rocky Ford Cemetery Association and Rocky Ford United Methodist Church and a life member of the Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663 Ladies Aux. Friends will be received from 10 AM until 1 PM the funeral hour on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Heavner officiating. Burial will follow in the Rocky Ford Church Cemetery in Buckhannon. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Rocky Ford Cemetery Association, 4037 Brushy Fork Road, Buckhannon, WV 26201.
