Obituary of Roy Thurman McKisic

Roy Thurman McKisic Roy Thurman McKisic, age 82, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, January 8, 2016 at Crestview Manor in Jane Lew, WV. He was born June 23, 1933 in Upshur County, WV, a son of the late Charles Duncan and Ruth Merle Wiemer McKisic. On April 21, 1953 he married Eunice Opal Reed who preceded him in death on July 28, 2015. He is survived by four daughters, Marsha Melton and husband Dave, Vickie Perrine and husband Larry and Patty Heater and husband Gary all of Jane Lew and Tracy Bleigh and husband Ed of Jacksons Mill, WV; four sons, Roy McKisic, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Elk View, WV, Randy McKisic and wife Lisa of Jane Lew, Bob McKisic and wife Nancy of Rock Cave, WV and Mark McKisic of Buckhannon; seventeen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, a twin sister, Rosabelle Thelma Billingslea of Warren, PA; Jane McCartney and husband Delbert of Heaston Ridge, WV and Vera DuVerger and husband Art of DeBary, FL. Mr. McKisic served in the US Army. Roy was an incredible man who always put his family first. He worked many jobs over the years and retired from Moore Business Forms. He was also a self-taught Blacksmith and Farrier who over the years put shoes on over 25, 000 horses and ponies. He used horse shoes to create many art pieces including chairs and cowboys. He made his own sawmill out of a car engine and used it to make split rail fence which he sold. He cut mining props from trees which he pulled and skidded with his ponies Ted and Smoky and later his Belgian draft horses Molly and Bob. Roy loved all animals and raised pigs and chickens, there were many dogs, but two of his favorites were Tara who passed on and his beloved Ornery who survives and will now live with his daughter Tracy. Friends will be received Monday, January 11, 2016 from 12-2 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Delmas Singleton officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery at Rock Cave. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to help with funeral expenses. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.
