Richard Lee Hollen
Loving husband, father and grandfather Richard Lee Hollen, 68, of Buckhannon passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 1 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Born October 20, 1947 and a 1965 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School, Rick attended Potomac State College before graduating from West Virginia University’s School of Agriculture and Forestry in 1972 with a B.S. in wildlife management and a minor in biology. Rick was employed by JM Eagle for 36 years, but he truly lived in the great outdoors. He enjoyed hunting grouse with his English setter by his side, and instilled his lifelong love of hunting and fishing in his children and grandchildren. He was an avid gardener, tilling and tending gardens for his family members throughout Buckhannon. A former high school baseball player himself, Rick coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball. Rick loved history and sports, always cheering on the West Virginia Mountaineers. While Rick had many hobbies, he was most passionate about his family. Rick was preceded in death by his father, James Sterling Hollen, his mother, Gladys Irene Hollen, and one sibling, Bettie Fern Hollen, who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Connie Sue Cutright Hollen, and their three children, son Cody Hollen and wife Rhonda; daughter Nikki Hollen and partner Mark Biller, and son Dustin Hollen. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Alex Alkire, Larissa Bennett, Miranda Bennett, Hayden Hollen, Sidney Hollen and Bo Hollen. In addition, Rick is survived by his siblings, brother James “Pete” Hollen and wife Kay; and sisters, Doris Crawford, Ginny Gilllespie, Betty Booth and husband Dick, and Joyce Hoover and husband Pat, as well as many loved nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Tuesday, July 5, 2016 from 4 to 8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ruffed Grouse Society or the Rosenbaum Family House in Morgantown. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
