Home at last, Portia May (Hamrick) age 79, a resident of Kesling Mill Community, departed this life Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon, WV. She was born July 19, 1938 at Monterville, WV in Randolph County, the daughter of the late Nolan R. and Maude L. (Salisbury) Hamrick. On November 21, 1971 she was united in Marriage to J. Dale Fortney, who preceded her in death on March 23, 1997. Surviving are two step-daughters, Charlene Malcom and husband Don and Sharon Stackpole all of Buckhannon and one daughter-in-law, Renee Fortney of Buckhannon. Also surviving are nine step-grandchildren, fifteen step great-grandchildren, three step great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two step great-grandchildren, two sisters, Kathleen L. Reed and Dora Winkler, one brother, Bryan E. Hamrick, one step-daughter, Shirley Gassnola, one step-son, Roger Fortney, and two step sons-in-law, Joe Gassnola and Larry Stackpole. Portia was a Christian; her Pride and Joy was working with children. By special request no flowers. When Laid Beneath the Sod. She had been a Child of God. A graveside service will be held 9 AM Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Kesling Mill Cemetery with the Rev. Wease L. Day officiating.
