Harold “Gene” Starr Harold “Gene” Starr, age 86, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, September 12, 2016 at Mansfield Place in Philippi, WV. He was born August 4, 1930 in Harrison County, WV, a son of the late Charles and Loma Mae Long Starr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his life companion, Bernice Phillips, one brother Charles Starr, one sister, Joy Davis and one niece, Cindy Davis. He is survived by one sister, Shirley Gifford and husband Earnest of Buckhannon; four nephews, Jimmy Gifford of Buckhannon, Steven Gifford and wife Sherri of Salem, OH, Greg Davis of TN, Gary Davis of OH; two nieces, Becky and Lisa and several great nieces and nephews. “Gene” attended the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge # 598 and he was active in the WV Strawberry Festival, the Hill Stump Fund, the Salvation Army and BURMA. He was a founding member of the WV Young Republicans and was appointed by Governor Underwood to work on the Worker’s Compensation Review Board. Friends will be received Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Frank Spears officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon.
